Fist Bump Friday is back at scm schools

By: School City of Mishawaka Last Updated: August 20, 2024

Beginning August 23, 2024, over 40 Mishawaka High School student athletes, band members, and dance team members will be going to School City of Mishawaka elementary schools and John Young Middle School for Fist Bump Fridays. They will be greeting students with a fist bump or high five and make a positive comment (ie: have a great day!) as the elementary and middle school students enter their school. This is a great way to get Mishawaka High School students out to our schools as role models for our future Cavemen.

“Three years ago I saw the idea of High Five Friday on a Facebook post of a former MHS athlete and thought it was a great idea. After getting input and support from the principals, several coaches and Band Director Kaleb Chamberlin, who coined the name Fist Bump Friday, I decided we could in fact make this happen at our seven elementaries and JYMS. What better way to get our athletic, band and dance teams out into the schools for positive interactions with our future Cavemen? Hopefully it will create some excitement for Mishawaka Athletics at our feeder schools and get more kids interested in coming out to events this fall!”

Fist Bump Friday Schedule:

Mishawaka High School students will arrive at the assigned elementary schools by 8:00 AM on Fridays and by 7:45 AM at John Young Middle School..
