Pets are more than just our furry friends, they are family. Making sure they are well taken care of is a priority for every pet owner. Chester Inc. partnered with Valparaiso Animal Hospital to help their dreams of a bigger animal clinic come true. The animal hospital celebrated their new location in Valparaiso during their Vet Clinic Open House event on Saturday!
Valparaiso Animal Hospital owner Dr. Jill Butler purchased their previous building 8 years ago, but felt that she was outgrowing it because of her patient's needs. She and her colleagues began looking for a property that would be suitable to move to to accommodate for this.

Chester Inc. has been designing buildings and giving back to the community for 75 years. Pet clinics are one of their specialties, so being able to work with Valparaiso Animal Hospital was the perfect fit.
“We wanted to thank and support Valpo Vet Hospital and for them to have a prosperous practice for years to come. Being able to provide them with a larger facility and working space is going to assist the hospital for their immediate and future needs," said Rich Shields, Director of Marketing and Business Development of Chester Inc.
Dr. Butler has 18 years of experience in emergency and critical care. Valparaiso Animal Hospital offers urgent care to pets with a more cost-effective price. The animal hospital also offers basic services including vaccines, spaying, and neutering. In addition, the new waiting room has two separate areas for cats and dogs.
“There are a lot of corporate veterinary businesses that are taking over and you lose a lot of that personal touch of being like a family,” said Dr. Butler. “There are a lot of places where you just don't have that bond anymore.”
The whole community came together bringing their friendly dogs to take a tour of the new animal hospital. Country music station Indiana 105 also joined to share music during the open house, while Porter County Animal Shelter offered the public information about their services. Valparaiso Animal Hospital’s mascot, Daisy the Dalmatian, was in attendance to meet with children and her fellow furry friends.
Snacks and prizes were served and awarded for the guests to enjoy. From freshly popped popcorn, to little treats for pets, they had a little bit of something for everyone.
Colleen Sargent, from Patriots Training Service Dogs, attended the event interested in looking for a new place to train dogs for veterans.
“I was interested in possibly using this for a training facility because we need one,” said Sargent. “It's nice to come and walk in to see what they offer, this building is awesome!”
In the future, the animal hospital hopes to add more to their facility. They will branch into physiotherapy rehab for both injured animals and animals suffering from arthritis and age-related changes. They will also be offering daycare for pets of the elderly in the future.
“When they need medicine in the middle of the day while mom has to work or the pet has to go potty a little bit more than they can handle, we can take care of them," said Dr. Butler. “Our goal is to know our patients, to know the people who love them, and to give pets the best care that we possibly can.”
