Swanson Traditional School has achieved a significant milestone as over 55% of its students surpassed their stretch growth goal in reading or math on the i-Ready assessment, making it the sole educational institution in the state to achieve this remarkable feat.
The i-Ready exam, administered to students from kindergarten to 8th grade, is a state-mandated tool utilized to gauge students' proficiency in reading and math. The test serves as a barometer to identify the district's most pressing educational needs, informing curriculum decisions.
Notably, the assessment delineates between two critical factors: Typical Growth, representing the anticipated annual progress of an average student, and Stretch Growth, outlining the accelerated progress necessary for a student to attain grade-level proficiency.
At Swanson Traditional School, an impressive majority of students have achieved a significant educational milestone. To acknowledge this accomplishment, representatives from i-Ready visited the school on Wednesday to extend their congratulations. As a token of recognition, i-Ready presented the dedicated teachers at Swanson with Crumbl Cookies and unveiled a banner that will be displayed on the school's facade.
This milestone can be attributed to a number of strategic initiatives and robust support systems implemented by the school. These measures include after-school tutoring sessions, wherein hand-picked students, selected based on their i-Ready scores, received targeted assistance from Monday through Thursday. Additionally, the school enlisted the expertise of interventionalists, who dedicatedly worked with students throughout the day, focusing on specific areas identified for growth in the i-Ready tests. Furthermore, teachers leveraged the invaluable insights from the i-Ready assessments to tailor and refine their instructional approaches.
"It's a great honor to witness the fruits of the labor invested by our dedicated teachers in our students' progress. We are witnessing tangible growth, a testament to our teachers' unwavering commitment and diligence, who ardently support and nurture our students," remarked Swanson Assistant Principal Lori Anderson.
