On August 23, Four Winds Field in South Bend became the arena for an exciting convergence of sports and technology as the South Bend Cubs faced off against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. In addition to throwing the game’s first pitch, fiber-optic internet service provider Surf Internet welcomed the first 1,000 fans to the ballpark with a commemorative Surf/South Bend Cubs pint glass, emblematic of the night's collaboration.
Operating from their headquarters in Elkhart and an additional office in La Porte, Surf Internet boasts a local team deeply ingrained in various community events. Mike Losier, the managing director of residential sales at Surf Internet, represented the company at their booth stationed just beyond the Gate A entrance. Throughout the evening, Losier and other Surf representatives talked with attendees, answered questions, and invited people to sign up to win a South Bend Cubs jersey. Moreover, anyone visiting the Surf booth to subscribe for services was rewarded with a complimentary month of service, exemplifying Surf's commitment to transforming the region's technological landscape.
“People are used to seeing fiber internet in bigger cities,” remarked Losier, “but at Surf, we believe that equitable access to fast, dependable internet is a right for all, irrespective of geography. Our mission is to reshape the future of the Great Lakes region by establishing an unparalleled network and delivering an unmatched customer experience, underscored by transparent pricing. Events like this allow us to introduce ourselves to the community and have some fun at the same time."
The sentiment was mirrored by Joe Hart, president of the South Bend Cubs, who expressed, "We are thrilled to collaborate with our local businesses. With an annual ballpark attendance exceeding 300,000 individuals, these partnerships provide an extraordinary platform to amplify our sponsors’ message. It's a remarkable platform for promoting our sponsors and fostering community engagement."
In line with their dedication to fan engagement, the South Bend Cubs organize approximately 20 giveaway nights each season, primarily on Wednesdays and Sundays. Hart elaborated on the significance of the pint glass giveaway, noting that it serves not only as a mutual aid but also as a keepsake to be cherished for years to come.
"Everyone loves receiving complimentary items," said Hart. "The pint glasses proudly bear both our logos, ensuring that each recipient will carry a piece of this event back home, fostering a lasting connection."
Hart further expressed gratitude for the unwavering community support throughout the season, observing, "Even on one of the hottest days of the summer, fans lined up over half an hour before the gates swung open. Their enthusiasm is the cornerstone of our ability to forge collaborations with various businesses. It's a privilege to be able to give them something in return."
The next South Bend Cubs giveaway will be this Sunday, August 27, when they host their Los Cabritos Maldichos (COPA) Goat Head Bobble giveaway.
