Sports in the Region: High school bowling teams all across Northern Indiana are on a roll

High school bowling is a prominent and growing sport in Northwest Indiana, with numerous schools participating in organized leagues and achieving notable success. The Lakeshore Indiana High School Bowling Conference (Lakeshore IHSB) encompasses several schools in the Region, including Valparaiso High School, Michigan City High School, Munster High School, Lowell High School, Wheeler High School, and La Porte High School.

In the 2024-2025 season, several Northwest Indiana teams and bowlers received regional recognition. For instance, the Valparaiso High School Boys Bowling team secured the top spot in the regular season with 176.5 points, followed closely by Chesterton High School in second place with 171.5 points, and Wheeler High School in third with 143.5 points.

In the Greater Lake Area, standout individual performances were seen in both boys' and girls' singles. The top four boys' bowlers were Matt Walsh and Ross Ingram from Lake Central High School, followed by Ty Pappas and Casey Knor from Munster High School. On the girls' side, Anna Holland (Highland High School) led the rankings, with Alicia Martinez (Griffith High School), Ashlynn Trombetta (Highland High School), and Courtney Adams (Griffith High School) rounding out the top four.

At the Michigan City Regionals, Highland High School claimed the top spot for the boys' teams with a score of 2,457, followed by LaVille High School (2,354), Crown Point (2,344), Mishawaka High School (2,176), and La Porte High School (2,171). For the girls, Boone Grove High School led with a score of 1,949, just ahead of Highland High School  (1,946), La Porte High School (1,941), and Kankakee Valley High School (1,906). Bowling in the Region continues to thrive, with programs producing high-level competition and strong performances year after year.

La Porte's High School Varsity Boys and Girls Bowling Teams qualified for Semi-State in Fort Wayne. Additionally, all La Porte High School athletes Kylee Estes, Gracie Kollar, Bailey Dilts, and Dalton Hines, competed at Semi-State as individuals. Kylee Estes went on to qualify for State; she represented La Porte High School in the Singles Event.

Dalton Hines (La Porte High School) competed in the All-State Tournament and finished 24th in the state, scoring 534 points. Estes  (La Porte High School) finished 8th with 548 points. Other Lake Area standouts include Chesterton High School Asia McClelland and Valparaiso High School Logan Pitts from conference, who also made it to State. Pitts finished 15th with 569 points, while McClelland placed 11th with 526 points.

Individual bowlers also earned accolades. The Indiana High School Bowling Program (IHSB) announced its All-Region Teams for the 2024-2025 season, recognizing the top performers across various regions, including Northwest Indiana.

The 2024-25 All-Region Team selections include notable athletes from various regions. For the boys, Ryan Carmichael (9) from LaVille High School (Michiana West), David Price (12) from Highland High School (Greater Lake County), Pitts (12) from Valparaiso (Lakeshore), Hines (10) from La Porte High School (Lakeshore), and Tyler Sheets (11) from Crown Point High School (Quad County) were recognized for their outstanding performances.

On the girls' side, Morgan Morales (10) from Boone Grove High School (Quad County), Estes (12) from La Porte High School (Lakeshore), Sophia Monroe (9) from Penn High School (Michiana West), and Autumn Strode (9) from Munster High School (Greater Lake County) earned spots on the prestigious team, showcasing their talent and potential.

Overall, high school bowling in Northern Indiana continues to thrive, offering students opportunities for athletic development, competition, and community engagement.
