South Bend Schools Reinstates In-House Facilities Management

The South Bend Community School Corporation (SBCSC) has announced a shift to in-house management of its facilities, effective July 1, 2025. This move aims to enhance operational efficiency and maximize resources for students and educators.

After partnering with SSC for facilities management since 2022, the district has identified ways to improve efficiency and cut costs, anticipating annual savings of $3 million to $5 million. These savings will support key educational initiatives and improve the learning environment for every student.

To ensure a smooth transition, SBCSC encouraged former SSC employees to apply for positions in the new in-house team and opened the application process to the public, resulting in about 200 applicants. As of July 1, around 165 employees have joined the team in various roles related to custodial, engineering, and skilled trades.

"Our children are our priority, and SBCSC is committed to maintaining the highest standards of performance and compliance from its new team members, with thorough background checks and ongoing evaluations, including a 90-day probationary period," said Ahnaf Tahmid, Chief Financial Officer of SBCSC. "This is truly a new beginning for the South Bend Community School Corporation, and we are proud to formally announce it today."

This transition complies with Indiana purchasing laws and has received board approval. SBCSC continues to prioritize high performance standards among its staff to ensure a positive impact on the educational experience for all students.

This strategic move highlights SBCSC's proactive approach to optimizing resources and reinforces its commitment to providing a high-quality educational experience for all students.
