Notre Dame vs. Army Football Game Recap

In a commanding performance, Notre Dame cruised to a 49-14 victory over Army, improving to 10-1 on the season. The Irish offense fired on all cylinders, with explosive plays and a balanced attack that overwhelmed the Black Knights from start to finish.

Jeremiyah Love set the tone early with three touchdowns, including a 68-yard touchdown run to open the second half, extending Notre Dame’s lead to 35-7. The ground game was dominant, as Aneas Williams added a 58-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, showcasing his speed and vision. Quarterback Riley Leonard was efficient through the air, going 9-of-11 for 130 yards and two touchdowns, including the first score of the night - a 28-yard strike to wide receiver Jordan Faison.

Army, who had struggled to find offensive rhythm throughout the game, managed to respond with a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late. Despite a solid rushing attack led by Bryson Daily (61 yards and one touchdown), the Black Knights couldn’t keep pace with the high-powered Notre Dame offense.

Defensively, the Irish were stifling, limiting Army to just 83 rushing yards and forcing a key fumble in the first half, that was recovered by linebacker Jack Kiser. The Notre Dame defense’s ability to neutralize the triple option and shut down Army’s ground attack was a game-changer.

With the win, Notre Dame moves on to 10-1 and now sets its sights on a critical matchup with USC in Los Angeles next week, where a win could further solidify their playoff aspirations. The Irish’s mix of explosive offense and stingy defense continues to make them one of the most formidable teams in the nation as they march toward the postseason.  They are expected to rise in the college football playoff poll with Indiana and Ole Miss losing on Saturday.

Beneath the towering lights of Yankee Stadium, where legends have trod the diamond and echoes of history linger in the rafters, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish forged their own chapter in a storied legacy. In a game that commemorated the famous 1924 clash between these two proud institutions, the Irish asserted their dominance in a 49-14 triumph over Army, improving to 10-1 on the season.

It was a fitting venue for such a moment, as Notre Dame—forever bound to its tradition of grit, glory, and greatness—paid homage to the iconic game played In New York City a century ago, when the Irish defeated the Black Knights 27-0, propelling them toward a national championship. The setting was more than just a backdrop—it was a reminder that history is never far behind, and it was within that history that this Irish team would craft its own narrative.

From the opening whistle, it was clear that the Fighting Irish were in no mood for sentimentality—they came to play, to dominate, and to prove their place in the pantheon of college football. Riley Leonard, efficient and unshaken, directed an offense that was as balanced as it was lethal. The passing game, led by Leonard’s pinpoint accuracy, was explosive, as he completed 9 of 11 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns. The ground game, powered by the powerful legs of Jerimiyah Love and Aneas Williams, kept Army’s defense on its heels, pushing the ball with a relentless rhythm that had the Black Knights reeling from the opening play of the second half.

It was Love who first announced Notre Dame’s intent to make this a statement game, ripping off a 68-yard touchdown run to start the second half, putting the Irish up 35-7. As the crowd inside Yankee Stadium roared, it felt as if the echoes of the 1924 victory had come alive once more, with the Irish returning to their rightful place at the pinnacle of the sport.

But the true beauty of the game lay in its symmetry. Aneas Williams, fresh off his 58-yard touchdown run that pushed Notre Dame’s lead to 49-7, mirrored the spirit of his predecessors who had trod these fields, their names forever etched in the annals of history.

Army fought valiantly, as it always does. Bryson Daily, with the heart of a soldier, plunged into the end zone on a one-yard run, but by then, the game was already out of reach. The Black Knights’ offense, though gritty, was stifled by a Notre Dame defense that never allowed them to build any momentum.

As the final whistle blew and the Irish celebrated their 49-14 victory, one could not help but feel the weight of history in the air. The 1924 game had been honored not just in name, but in spirit, as Notre Dame added another victory to its storied legacy.

And now, with the victory secured and the Irish at 10-1, they turn their focus to the next challenge—USC in Los Angeles next week. But for now, they can revel in the knowledge that their place in college football history has been further solidified under the bright lights of Yankee Stadium.

The echoes of 1924 will forever resonate in the hearts of Notre Dame’s faithful, as the Irish continue to march toward their destiny.
