Notre Dame Coordinators Confident in Growth, Depth Following Spring Practice Update

Notre Dame coordinators Chris Ash and Mike Denbrock expressed confidence in the team’s progression this spring, highlighting development across both sides of the ball during Friday’s media availability at the Irish Athletic Center.

Ash, in his first spring as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator, praised the intelligence and work ethic of the players, particularly noting unexpected depth along the interior defensive line. “Every day, the picture of what we have becomes a little bit clearer,” Ash said. “These guys have been well-coached, and they care.”

Ash also said the defensive line has been a standout group so far, pointing to the emergence of returning players and the immediate impact of transfers. “If you're going to control the line of scrimmage, you’ve got to have those big guys inside—and I think we have them,” he said.

On offense, Denbrock, the John and Bobbie Arlotta Family Offensive Coordinator and tight ends coach, emphasized the benefits of system continuity entering his second consecutive year in the role.

“Year two gives you a chance to really dig into the details,” Denbrock said. “If we clean up the little things, especially in situational football, we’ll be hard to stop.”

Denbrock acknowledged the challenge of evaluating three quarterbacks but said the coaching staff has balanced reps effectively to allow fair competition. “All three guys have done a really nice job. It’ll come down to some specific things in the end,” he noted.

Among the tight end group, depth is thin, but opportunities are plenty. Veterans like Eli Raridon and Kevin Bauman are embracing expanded roles, while versatile local product Justin Fisher has shifted back into the tight end room after spending time at running back.

Bauman, who has battled injuries throughout his career, spoke emotionally about his return. “I would give anything to take the field at this university with this team,” he said. “There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”

Raridon noted that health and familiarity with the offense have allowed him to play faster and more confidently, while freshman Jack Larsen said he’s using spring reps to sharpen his technique.

Notre Dame will continue spring practice through April, culminating in the annual Blue-Gold Game at Notre Dame Stadium.
