Mishawaka community comes together for 21st annual Kamm Island Fest

The 21st annual Kamm Island Fest, sponsored by the Mishawaka Business Association, brought the Mishawaka community together on Wednesday, July 17, for an evening of food, drinks, music, and vintage cars. This much-anticipated event, exclusive to those 21 and over, offered a fun night out and a chance to unwind.

Lacy Hahn, who serves on both the Mishawaka Business Association Board and the Mishawaka City Council at large, played a role in the planning of the event and also helped out during the festivities.

“The Mishawaka Business Association has a special committee for this event, so I assist them when needed," Hahn said. "Right now, I'm at the ticket booth selling tickets. I can't wait to go have some fun later and watch the bands. I always look forward to socializing a bit and seeing all my friends and family here.”

One unique aspect of the Kamm Island Fest is its adults-only policy. It allowed attendees to relax and enjoy the evening without the responsibilities of childcare.

"I enjoy that the event is 21 and over,” Andrea Waech, a car show participant, said. "I love kids, but it's kind of nice having a kid-free event."

A beloved aspect of the event is the "Taste of Mishawaka," featuring several local favorites. Attendees could enjoy food from Junbuggies, Knights of Columbus, Rulli Pizza, Bonnie Doon, Real Grille, Rico Suave, All Things Snacks, Portillos, Coney Express, Prized Pig, Craft One Half, and Paddy Shack Ice Cream, which presented a variety of treats.

First-time attendee, Jeremy Sharpe, was impressed by all the delicious food options that were available.

“The food is incredible,” Sharpe said. “I found some amazing local restaurants that I’ll definitely visit again.”

As festival-goers enjoyed their food, drinks, and fun, the island was filled with the sounds of live music from BLAMMO and Starlord. The entertainment stage became a focal point, drawing many attendees who wanted to experience the energized atmosphere up close.

The vintage car show was also a major highlight of the festival. Before the event, community members had the option to register to showcase their classic cars. The variety of vintage vehicles on display was a delight to the many car enthusiasts in attendance.

Waech was thrilled to be part of the car show for the first time this year.

"I'm excited to finally have a car that we can show,” Waech said. “Tonight, I'm showing our 1951 Packard."

The Kamm Island Fest means more than just an evening of entertainment; it also serves as a way to foster a sense of community throughout the city.

"It's great to see so many people from the area come to this event,” Hahn said. “It brings out a lot of people from every walk of life. Everyone really seems to appreciate the city and all the things Mishawaka has to offer."
