Markus Burton Earns NABC All-District Honors After Record-Breaking Sophomore Season

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its 2024-25 Division I All-District Teams and Coaches of the Year on Tuesday, with Notre Dame sophomore guard Markus Burton earning a spot on the Great Lakes District Second Team. The honors were voted on by NABC-member coaches from across NCAA Division I.

Burton adds another accolade to his growing list after a standout sophomore campaign. He was named Second Team All-ACC and led the conference in scoring with an impressive 23.5 points per game. His overall season average of 21.3 points per game ranked fifth nationally among Division I players. Additionally, Burton was voted First-Team All-ACC by the Associated Press.

The Mishawaka, Indiana, native also made history during ACC play, scoring 423 points, and breaking his own freshman scoring record. With 772 career points in conference play, Burton now ranks fifth all-time in program history.

Burton proved to be a dynamic playmaker as well, leading the team in both assists (3.0 per game) and steals (1.7 per game). He joined Irish legend David Rivers as the only two players in program history to average 20+ points and 3+ assists in a season.

Known for his elite pull-up jumper, Burton shot 44.6% from midrange and 46.4% in the paint. He also significantly improved his three-point shooting, jumping from 30.0% as a freshman to 37.5% this past season.

This year, the NABC introduced a new district alignment model, grouping schools by state rather than conference. The updated format features 10 geographic regions, with Notre Dame placed in the Great Lakes District.
