On Main Street, Levin Tire & Service Center is expanding in the Hub City by adding a new, larger service center across town – just off Broadway. The Levin Tire team, Crown Point officials, and Chester Inc., who are building the new location, broke ground on the project Friday morning.
Levin Tire, which boasts over 100 years of service in Northwest Indiana, is a full-service auto center. Its teams of service technicians handle everything from simply putting on a new set of tires to full exhaust system repairs. The existing Crown Point Levin Tire & Service Center, nestled in a neighborhood just off the downtown square, features six service bays. The new location will feature 10 bays – allowing the team to service more customers.
“We’ve been waiting about seven to 10 years to do this,” said Barry Levin, owner of Levin Tire & Service Centers. “The area’s just booming, and our store on Main Street is very successful but limited in space. This gives us a lot more space, and we’re really glad to have this opportunity.”
Levin stressed that the existing location is not shutting down, and customers can expect business to continue as usual.
“As far as we see, this new location is in a separate market,” he said. “The other store is right in a neighborhood, while this new one is more where people are working.”
Levin Tire General Manager Jeff Russell said that the new store will feature everything that its customers expect from a visit to any of their other locations.
“We can do tires, we can do service, and we can do it in a volume setting,” he said. “The other thing, but no less important, is our family atmosphere. We’re still going to have that same familiar tone that we have at our other stores with an industrial scale. That’s what we’re going to bring, and I think that’s unique to the area.”
Chester Inc., who has built a number of other Levin Tire locations, expects to finish construction by early to mid-spring.
“We’ll start laying block masonry next week, and then we’ll get the walls up and put the roof on,” said Mark Van Zuidam, project manager for Chester Inc. “We’re working extremely closely with Levin. We’re in constant contact with them. We’ve discussed everything, from equipment placement and where it’s all going to anything else. There’s a lot of communication back and forth. They’re a great partner to work with.”
Crown Point Mayor Pete Land attended the groundbreaking and thanked the Levin family for their commitment to the city.
“They’ve been here for over 30 years, and the fact that they have the customer base to keep their current location and build a new facility shows they’ve earned their customer’s loyalty,” Land said. “This is going to be a great location. I’m happy for the Levin family; they’re great people, and they’ve been a great asset for Crown Point.”
