Blasko family’s Christmas light display spreads Holiday cheer while supporting a great cause

For the past decade, the Blasko family has transformed their yard into a winter wonderland, welcoming the community to walk through an interactive display of thousands of Christmas lights and animatronics. Not only does this annual display spread holiday cheer to the thousands who experience it each year, but it’s also a fundraiser for the Center for the Homeless.

This beloved tradition began when Adeline Blasko created the original blueprints for their first display when she was just 2 years old. Now, 10 years later, Adeline Blasko and her 9-year-old younger brother, Elliott Blasko, work together to design the blueprints. Over the years, the display has grown into something bigger than the siblings imagined.

“It started out little, but now it's giant!” Elliott Blasko said.

The light display wasn’t always about giving back — it started out as just something fun. However, that changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, the Blasko family volunteered every Christmas at the Center for the Homeless, but during the pandemic, in-person volunteering wasn’t possible.

“We used to help serve food at the Center for the Homeless,” Elliott Blasko said. “When COVID hit, we had to figure out another way to give back, so we came up with the idea to collect money and clothing donations.”

Last year, the Blasko family raised more than $10,000 and three vanloads of winter clothing donations for the Center for the Homeless.

This year, the family began working on their display in August, building many of the pieces themselves — including an arch made from an old, broken trampoline. As visitors journey through the bright display, they’ll experience a variety of themes including Buddy the Elf, Misfit Toys, “Harry Potter,” “Star Wars,” Mickey Mouse, Marvel, Minions, “Home Alone,” “Paw Patrol,” a dance floor, and more.

Adding to the excitement this year, the Blasko family will get to relive their 2023 display when it airs on “The Great Christmas Light Fight” on ABC, December 19 at 9 p.m.

Whether visitors donate or simply enjoy the display, the Blasko family hopes to spread a little Christmas magic throughout the community.

“I just want everyone to leave with a smile,” Elliott Blasko said.

To experience the excitement of the Blasko family’s display, visit them at 14469 Panda Ct., Mishawaka, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
