Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Marcus Freeman has been named a semifinalist for the 2024 George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, as announced by the Maxwell Football Club.
Finalists will be revealed December 24, with the winner announced January 9, 2025. Notre Dame’s lone previous winner was Tyrone Willingham in 2022.
In his third season, Freeman guided the Irish to an 11-1 record, a No. 3 national ranking in both the AP and Coaches polls, and the No. 7 seed in the 2024 College Football Playoff. Under Freeman, Notre Dame defeated four ranked opponents this season—No. 20 Texas A&M, No. 15 Louisville, No. 24 Navy, and No. 18 Army—earning his 11th win over a ranked foe in just three seasons.
The Irish excelled statistically, leading the nation in team passing efficiency defense (94.10), turnovers gained (28), and defensive touchdowns (6), while ranking among the top 10 nationally in several other categories, including scoring offense, scoring defense, and total defense.
