Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman has agreed to a long-term extension, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the country, a university official confirmed Sunday.
The deal, believed to add four years to his contract, keeps Freeman in South Bend for six more years. "I’m grateful for the support of the Board of Trustees, Fr. Bob Dowd, and Pete Bevacqua," Freeman said. "Their investment ensures our program stays among the elite in college football."
In his third season, Freeman led the No. 7 Irish to an 11-1 record and a College Football Playoff berth, facing No. 10 Indiana on Friday. His career record at Notre Dame is 30-9. This is Notre Dame’s third CFP appearance but the first under Freeman, who took over as head coach in 2021 after serving as defensive coordinator.
