The University of Notre Dame football team (11-1) has secured the No. 7 seed in the 2024 College Football Playoff and will face No. 10 Indiana (11-1) in a historic first-round matchup at Notre Dame Stadium on Friday, December 20, at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN/ABC.
This marks the first-ever College Football Playoff game held on a college campus, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening in South Bend.
Notre Dame and Indiana are no strangers, meeting for the 30th time in their storied histories. The Fighting Irish hold a commanding 23-5-1 series lead, including a 13-1-1 record at home. However, this will be their first postseason clash. The teams last faced off on September 7, 1991, with Notre Dame earning a decisive 49-27 victory at Notre Dame Stadium.
Both teams have enjoyed remarkable seasons, with Notre Dame finishing No. 3 in the AP and Coaches Polls and Indiana ranked No. 9 in both.
This is Notre Dame’s third trip to the College Football Playoff (2018, 2020) and the first under the expanded 12-team format. The Irish join an elite group of programs hosting the inaugural on-campus playoff games.
The winner of this matchup will advance to the Allstate Sugar Bowl to face No. 2 Georgia on January 1, 2025, in New Orleans, LA.
