At the third annual Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala, hosted by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), nearly $5 million was awarded to schools and educators throughout the state. This prestigious black-tie event celebrated the exceptional work of Indiana’s educators and their commitment to fostering student success across a variety of educational initiatives.
Among the awardees, the Career Academy Network of Public Schools (CANOPS) was recognized with a $250,000 award for Excellence in Community Collaboration for its innovative partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Indiana Corridor. This collaboration has been instrumental in creating impactful educational opportunities for students and strengthening community ties to enhance student learning outcomes.
“I am incredibly proud of the team at Career Academy Network for receiving the Excellence in Community Collaboration award. This recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to working hand-in-hand with industry leaders, non-profits, colleges, universities, and countless other community partners says Jeremy Lugbill, Superintendent of Schools. It is through these powerful collaborations that we are able to provide our students with unparalleled opportunities, preparing them for success in college, careers and their lives. This award reflects the spirit of innovation and partnership that drives us forward."
The awards presented during the gala highlight excellence in areas such as early literacy, STEM, student pathways, college readiness, community collaboration, and educator professional development. Financial awards, which were distributed to school districts across the state, ranged up to $250,000 and were proportional to the size of the respective school or district’s student population.
Awarded funds must be used to sustain and expand current impactful programs, support the teachers leading these initiatives, and mentor other schools in developing innovative strategies through a community of practice.
The Indiana Educational Excellence Awards Gala celebrates schools and districts that maximize student support through strategic partnerships with local and state collaborators. This year’s event spotlighted schools that are pioneering new strategies to enhance student learning and foster a thriving educational environment.
