Girls Basketball Valparaiso vs. Chesterton 2023
The Valparaiso High School Vikings Girls Basketball team (10-2) secured a 62-46 victory against the Chesterton High School Trojans (8-4) on Friday, December 15.
- The Vikings were led by senior Becca Gerdt’s 21 points
- Sophomore Lillian Barnes also contributed 16 points in their 16 point win
- The Vikings have won seven in a row and are still tied atop the DAC standings
Girls Basketball Lake Central vs. Crown Point 2023
The Lake Central Indians Girls Basketball team (11-1) defeated the Crown Point High School Bulldogs (9-6) 57-41.
- Ayla Krygier led the Indians in scoring with 11 points,
- Crown Point’s Ava Ziolkowski led both teams overall with 13 points
- The Lady Indians extend their win streak to 10 and remain undefeated in DAC play
Girls Gymnastics La Porte Pairs Invitational
La Porte hosted the season opener for girls gymnastics this past Saturday. Crown Point came out on top taking 1st place at the invite.

Region Sports Update
The Valparaiso Boys and Girls Swimming & Diving Teams picked up a massive Duneland Athletic Conference victory at Chesterton on December 12.
- Boys won 105-81
- Girls won 109-74
- The Valparaiso High School Boys team beat Chesterton for the first time in 25 years.
- The Valparaiso High School Girls team beat Chesterton for the first time in 23 years.
Evan Gagnon of North Newton Jr-Sr High School reached a major milestone this past week.
- 1,000 career points for the North Newton Spartans
Jack Smiley, point guard for the Valparaiso Vikings Boys basketball team leads the Duneland Athletic Conference with 28.8 points per game. The Vikings are 5-2 on the season.
- Shoots 54% from the field
- #3 in the state of Indiana in points per game
- #1 in Division 4A for 2 stats
- #1 in Duneland Athletic Conference for 4 stats
